Summer Solstice

Last night was my Herb Society meeting, this year we celebrated the Summer Solstice, (a couple days early but just as happy for the beginning of Summer).

It was held in the country at one of the members farms. Along the way there was a farm full of poppies, also planted all along the road in front of the farm.

Everyone brought a dish to pass,
(cupcakes with fresh violas)

 many with fresh herbs.

After dinner we all made wreaths with fresh flowers.

Kristie ready for the Sun,

PJ,

Everyone celebrating.

Beverly reading us the history of Summer Solstice.

Tossing in our written wishes for the Summer.

 Hemlock anyone?

PJ sharing her heirloom roses with me.

Back home, my Summer Solstice silk scarf I rust dyed

with Summer Suns swirling.

My roses ready to go into the dye pot,

I'm going dye my wool with them on the longest day of the year, it should be magical!
I'll show you the results next week.

My guess is it'll be a grey blue color. It seems the colors are usually opposite of what we think they should be!

Looks like so much fun.

It's been hot here lately!

Hi Deb and Deb,
I'm using a vinegar mordant on the wool and a little lemon juice in the dye pot so I'm thinking I'll get a nice pink but who knows it could be gray.
I'm most concern about if it is pink will it gradually turn to brown (like roses do). We'll see.

Kathy-have you ever dyed with avocado skins? Just read on pinterest it gives a vintage pinkish color...just wondered? Something new to try. Deb C

Oh Kathy, You have such a great herb group and I absolutely loved reading about your Summer Solstice. My circle celebrated a bit late, just this past weekend. The silk scarf is so beautiful draped over the lights. Oh me oh my. I can't wait to see how the rose bath turns out. xoxo
